What is nappa leather?

Napa leather (often called Nappa leather) is a leather noted for its soft feel, derived as it is from calves, lambs, and kid goats, which have soft hides. It is a generic term in the leather field and has no distinct test for characterization. Nappa leather is top-quality leather that undergoes a unique tanning process and is softer and more pliable than most hides. It was named after the Napa Valley in California, where the tanning company that developed it was located. Nappa leather might be soft and smooth but there is no question about its durability. It goes through a delicate yet detailed tanning process that makes it water & heat resistant to some extent and it does not scratch easily.

Are leather gloves worth it?

Leather is perfect to makes gloves as it is as smooth as butter, malleable, and endowed with a natural 'give and take' which allows the glove maker’s craft to give a second glove like form. SageBrown’s luxury ladies' leather gloves are uncompromised for quality, durability and style, giving you ladies gloves that will last for years. Our gloves are handmade from only the finest leather and we guaranteed to help you make a timeless fashion statement that will last for seasons.

How should women's leather gloves fit?

A good pair of leather gloves “give” a little so if you can't decide between two sizes, remember that your gloves should be snug but not constricting. They will naturally give a little over time, taking the shape of your hand. It’s important that the finger length is comfortable and fits the full length of your fingers without being baggy at the top.

What should I look for when buying leather gloves?

Good quality leather. Poor quality leather is stiff and is more likely to crack and stretch out, so investing in a high-quality leather is key to the longevity and comfort of your gloves. A hard leather means that you can’t really feel anything and they limit the range of movement. On the other hand, a quality glove is soft, stretchy and it looks very elegant when it’s on your hand. We get our sheepskin leather from Italy which are supremely soft and are the perfect thickness for luxury gloves.

Appropriate lining. SageBrown offer knitted cashmere lined gloves and genuine rabbit fur lined gloves. Both offer protection and warmth against the cold weather.

Quality Construction. Check the stitching around the fingers and thumb area. Stitching should be close together and even. Our skilled artisans are master craftsmen who have passed on their knowledge of glove making to the next generations to ensure this skill is never lost.

Should gloves be tight or loose?

A properly fitting glove will have about 0.5cm of leather at the end of your outstretched fingers. When you make a fist, the fit should not be too tight or restrictive.

Should you buy leather gloves small?

Your gloves should fit snug but not constricting, and should cover the end of your fingertips without much extra room. A leather glove should fit your hand like a leather jacket fits your body—snug, but not super tight.

Can you make a bespoke pair of gloves?

Unfortunately, we are unable to make bespoke gloves or provide any alterations on our products.

How should I care for my gloves?

SageBrown leather gloves should retain their shape and colour for years. However, they are bound to need a bit of TLC occasionally. Here’s our quick guide to glove care:

How to waterproof leather gloves: Leather already has a natural resistance to the elements. As long as you’re not submerging them in a bucket of water your gloves should be fine. You can use waterproof spray for shoes to increase the longevity but test on the inside of the cuff first before spraying the glove completely. If your gloves do happen to get very wet, NEVER DRY THEM WITH EXTERNAL HEAT i.e. a radiator, a fire or a tumble dryer. Your gloves should be left to dry in their own time to prevent them from cracking and drying out. Once your gloves are dry, we would suggest rubbing in some neutral leather creme so keep them soft. Leather cremes are available to buy in most of your local department stores.

How to clean leather gloves: Cleaning leather gloves should be done with the upmost care and only if absolutely necessary. Use warm water and a soap such as Lux and wipe down gently with a damp cloth. Never wash them in a washing machine or fully submerge them in water. Allow to dry naturally.

How do I know what size gloves I wear?

To find out your glove size, extend your hand flat and with a tailor's measuring tape, wrap it around the strongest hand just below the knuckles and fingers, but above the thumb and make a loose fist. Glove size should be measured in inches. Round up to the nearest half inch. (e.g. if your hand measures 6.5″, purchase a glove size 7).You can also use the size reference in the product overview tab to determine the glove size.
